    Dr. Janis Goldman PhD

    Clinical Psychologist, Psychoanalyst

Dr. Goldman is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalyst, as well as an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychology at UCLA.  She has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since the 1980’s helping women, men, couples and families cope with infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, high-risk pregnancies, and assisted reproduction.  She conducted award-winning research on the effects of fetal ultrasound on the pregnant mother’s growing attachment to her baby.  She has psychologically evaluated potential egg donors, sperm donors and surrogates and helped individuals and couples transition to finding their “best match” in creating the family they so desire.

As a Psychoanalyst, Dr. Goldman is aware of the deeper feelings and issues that invariably are stirred up in patients struggling with infertility and attempting to build a family.  Past experiences of abuse, trauma and neglect, as well as unresolved grief, all contribute to a more painful and confusing emotional experience during the infertility treatment process.  Helping patients sort through and understand these experiences can facilitate a more manageable and clear-sighted journey.

Dr. Goldman is a member of the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine; Resolve: The National Infertility Association; the American Psychological Association; the Los Angeles County Psychological Association; and The International Psychoanalytic Association.
